Energy Group

The aim of the Energy Group is to help establish more sustainable use and supply of energy in and around Redhill, to minimise our contribution to climate change and improve our local resilience in the face of diminishing supplies of cheap and accessible fossil fuels. (And reducing our reliance on the Big Six energy companies and their annual well-above-inflation price rises wouldn’t hurt too.)

The Energy Group has two goals:

  1. To reduce the amount of energy we use.
  2. To generate as much as our energy as possible locally using renewable technology.

There is much we can do as a community, from eco-refurbishment of our homes and buildings, to encouraging more sustainable construction of our new buildings, to generating our own energy from renewable and low carbon sources. This will mean working with individuals, community groups, businesses, policy makers and other organisations, to help turn vision into practical reality.

We held our first Energy Group meeting in January 2014, and have decided to launch an Energy Services Company (an ESCo), which will initially focus on community solar power projects. We will keep you updated on our progress on this website.

If you are interested in getting involved in the venture, please get in touch: energy@transitionredhill.org.
