Transition Redhill – June Update

Reading in the gardenTransition Redhill Book Share

If you’re interested in Transition ideas – and presumably you are if you’re reading this – then why not join our local book sharing circle?

It’s dead simple: we’re building up a list of books on Transition-related themes that members are prepared to lend to each other. You can browse the list, add books of your own, and contact people direct to arrange to borrow theirs.

The books cover a wide range of genres and topics from food and energy to practical gardening guides and more.

You can see the current list of books here.

Contact info@transitionredhill.org to find out more and start sharing.

NewspapersTransition Free Press: outlets and money boxes

Do you know of a shop, café, community centre or work place which could display copies of the Transition Free Press newspaper? Copies are already available at Merstham Station, and we are actively looking for more distribution points for the paper.

And we’re also looking for someone to make some honesty boxes for buyers to deposit their £1. Could this be you? Please contact info@transitionredhill.org if you can help.

Gatton Park logoGatton Country Fair – can you lend a hand?

We will be running a stall at the Gatton Country Fair this year, so please stop by for a chat.

If you could spare a bit of time on the day, we would be glad of more volunteers to help man the stall for a little while. Please contact info@transitionredhill.org if you would like to help.

When: Sunday, 6 July 2014 @ Noon – 5:00 pm
Where: Gatton Park, Reigate, Surrey, RH2 0TD

Redhill cycle commutersRedhill Cycle Commuters Group

If you cycle to work, or are thinking about giving it a go, a new Facebook group could give you vital support!

The aim of the group is to help people share your experiences, discuss barriers and issues, access free resources and advice, and find out about local events to help keep you and your bike happy and healthy.

TravelSmart Surrey logoFunding for sustainable travel projects

Local organisations can apply for funding for projects that promote sustainable travel and/or improve access to jobs and employment skills. Projects have to benefit people within the Redhill West (basically west of the A23) and Merstham council wards.

The funding comes from the Travel Smart Surrey scheme and includes small grants (up to £3,000) or larger ones (up to £10,000). All the details including eligibility criteria and application deadlines are on the Travel Smart Surrey website.

Co-wheels logoFree electric vehicle charging points

Homeowners and commercial organisations are eligible for government grants to cover the cost of purchasing and installing electric vehicle charging points.

You don’t even have to own an electric vehicle to qualify, but you do have to use an electric vehicle through work or a car club (but that’s something many Transitioners would recommend anyway!). The Co-wheels car club has hooked up with an approved Office for Low Emission Vehicles (OLEV) Supplier to supply and install free electric vehicle charging stations to both domestic and commercial energy users.

Read more about Co-wheels.

Co-wheels members can find out more about the charging point offer by contactinginfo@co-wheels.org.uk and quote your name and Co-wheels membership number.

Our monthly Transition Drinks. All welcome.

We will be in the main bar at the Garland. Come along for a chat and see what we have been doing and what we have planned. We are always keen to hear new ideas, and if you have a project you think we could help with, please come and tell us about it.

We’ll be there from 8, probably until about 9.30 or so, so drop in any time in between.
