On Tuesday 18 March, we’ll be adding a seed swap to our usual Transition drinks at The Garland. This is an event where you can exchange vegetable and flower seeds.
Please bring unwanted packets, or seeds collected from your garden or allotment. Take away new varieties. You might grow wildflowers for bees, or try a new vegetable you haven’t grown before. If you don’t have seeds to swap, don’t worry, a small donation will be welcomed instead.
Swapped seeds can have a number of advantages over commercial seeds from the garden centre:
- they are likely to be well-suited to your local growing conditions
- they often come with first-hand advice on how to grow them
- seed swapping helps protect plant biodiversity
Debbie Fox from Growing Redhill will be on hand to advise on growing your seeds. She is also looking for volunteers to transform some planters at East Surrey Hospital.
So get growing this spring!
